On Notes While Watching: These are notes I jot while I watch the episode/movie. There are spoilers and the commentary is not cohesive, but reactionary.
101: Thousands of years after the fall of Humankind, the Four Lands is in grave danger. The fate of the world rests on the shoulders of an unlikely trio: an Elvin Princess who dreams of a life outside of the palace walls, a beautiful, wild and wily Human Rover and a half-elf, who knows nothing of the great destiny that runs through his veins.
102: Having seen an apocalyptic vision of the world’s destruction, Amberle leaves the palace in search of answers. But when Wil and Allanon realize that she is the key to saving the Four Lands, they set out to find the princess before the Dagda Mor’s Demons hunt her down.
103: Wil and Amberle are kidnapped by Eretria and Cephalo while returning to the palace. But the Rovers are the least of their worries -Wil must learn how to use the Elfstones before a bloodthirsty Fury kills them all.
104: While Amberle embarks on a deadly task to prove her worth to the Ellcrys, the Dagda Mor sends the Changeling, an ancient, shape-shifting Demon, to kill her and anyone in its way. But when a demon can take shape of anyone in the palace, finding it won’t be easy.
Amberly girl is stupid
“Everything is terrible because I ran the gauntlet as girl”
Rover Daughter has a horrible patriarchal father who wnats to sell her in marriage — this is how we show he’s evil and she’s just misunderstood.
Can we telegraph that prince elf is evil and corrupt anymore? “DADDY IS STUPID AND CRAZY BECAUSE HE BELIEVES IN THINGS I DON’T UNDERSTAND”
Elf King is Stupid. “I doubt myself even though I saw magic and know that magic exists and know the truth of the tree because I’m stupid”
This show wants to be dragonage and lord of the rings, with the last druid and the elves and the chosen
Seriously, if I were Will, I’d be all, “Yah, I’m out yall, peace”
Best line “He brought me along to protect you” “You’re joking right?”
And OF COURSE the aunt who is a good guy has to die to fuel the faith and belief of the druid and the chosen girl. #girlinrefridgerator Add in Will’s mom who was refridgerated to inspire him. AND we have Amberly’s boyfriend is fridged.
I don’t understand how Amberly can have gone through all this training and is still so weak/incompetent
Slow-mo demon killing scene by the Grey Warden, I mean, Druid, sorry.
Seriously, Amberly finds out all the other chosen are gone and runs off to cry. What, was the chosen only a prestige position? Only for fun, miss spoiled princess girl?
Oh boy, now we have the “I know how you feel” conversations. Share our dead stories.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about the boyfriend I really had no way to know about”
OF COURSE PRINCESS, ITS ALWAYS ALL ABOUT YOU — this is always your fault. OH MY GOD CAN YOU BE MORE SELF ABSORBED.
There’s always a convenient druid place to take the damn druid.
For real? How is Will, who doesn’t know how to protect himself from ANYTHING, going to protect this girl?
Elf princes are spoiled and bad guys, can we foreshadow this more, please?
Why you? Why did he pick you, Will? Good question, Amberly.
Seriously, spoiled princess — you should have never run to be a chosen if this is how you’re going to fucking run from your duties all the time because you’re scared and whiny
And they got caught by the Rover girl, again. Call me surprised.
Why are the Rovers trying to recruit Will?
Grey Warden shows up and is like, OMG I HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THESE CHILDREN WHEN THERE IS SERIOUS BUSINESS TO HANDLE
Now we have to have a sage cleansing of Will, because the stones are his to bear. That’s right, he bears his FATHERS STONES
THIS CLEARLY CHAINED UP BOY IS CLEARLY NO THREAT. HE’S COMING WITH US BECAUSE I AM SO SMART.
Seriously, did they bring this chained up kid in just to solve the mystery and move the plot along? Hurpadurp, we’re bumbling along like idiots. Better bring in a magical human to solve everything and wrap things up in a tidy puzzle because apparently we cannot put 2 and 2 together. (Like how if Rover was holding Will and Amberly hostage — how could she have killed all the Chosen? And if she didn’t kill all the Chosen, then you still have a traitor in the ranks who everyone trusts and you haven’t fooled the demon at all..And why does it have to be a masked demon? Couldn’t it be an actual traitor? Do traitors not exist in magical future?)
This show is high highschool drama, which is what you would expect from MTV. Will’s character is growing on me, because at least he has some background that makes his idiocy make sense, although I really don’t understand why he’s doing what he’s doing. I mean, I guess, he’s supposed to really just want to help someone but how is he going to help anyone? I REALLY don’t like Amberly. She’s everything you’d expect a stereotypical elven (read upper class, just like Will is supposed to be lower class, so we have starcrossed lovers) princess. She is narcissistic, self-absorbed and weak, even though she considers herself far more capable than she really is. She’s only strong when she really doesn’t need to be and weak otherwise. And I really don’t understand the elven king and the elven kingdoms lack of knowledge about demons and their tree is really mind boggling. The story just doesn’t make any sense as they are telling it. Seriously, none of the elves are old enough to have remembered the demons and the war except the king? No one believes magic can exist now even though it existed only like 30 years ago when the last druid disappeared? There’s no history anywhere? So even though we obviously derived from the modern war, all that modernity and magic were lost, a mere human lifespan ago but no one has memories of these. The characters were also weak and poorly introduced. They just really aren’t all that compelling and are really only have stereotypical dimensions. Its sad, because the settings are beautiful. I think there is potential in this story but right now its being really poorly played out to set up a love triangle (maybe even quadrangle if they bring human boy back) and silly drama, which distract, rather than add a human layer to the massive world ending plot.
