GWSSA Mission Statement
Gender and Women’s Studies Student Association at Kennesaw State University is founded on the premise that gender, which takes on different forms in different times and places, centrally shapes the everyday lives of all people. GWSSA offers a place where not only can students and faculty increase social awareness among the student body and the public at large, but also get actively involved in engaging current gender and women’s issues, while focusing on intersections with race, ethnicity, and social class.
In all our work, we aspire to contribute to the mission of the GWSSA program at KSU by:
·Promoting social awareness on gender and women’s stereotypes that are present in society by hosting informative educational events
·Emphasizing that gender requires careful attention to its construction in relation to other social and cultural identities
·Providing leadership and support for students interested in learning about and getting involved with gender related issues
·Emphasizing the need for a global perspective on gender-related topics and issues
·Promoting outreach and partnerships between students and faculty
·Fostering sensibilities of social justice and gender equality through activism
·Sharing our vision of a just society promoting open dialogue and community across all forms of difference without yielding its complexity
·Engaging in collaboration as a crucial strategy toward achieving shared goals by hosting public events
·Maintaining a commitment to promoting the personal, intellectual, and social growth of all students, faculty, and staff at Kennesaw State University
·Helping ensure that all Kennesaw State University community members see the university as a safe place and inclusive environment
