The following are the KSU Gender & Women's Studies Student Association Bylaws.

Article I. Name
Gender and Women’s Studies Student Association

Article II. Purpose
Gender and Women’s Studies Student Association (GWSSA) at Kennesaw State University is founded on the premise that gender, which takes on different forms in different times and places, centrally shapes the everyday lives of all people. GWSSA offers a place where not only can students and faculty increase social awareness among the student body and the public at large, but also get actively involved in engaging current gender and women’s issues, while focusing on intersections with race, ethnicity, and social class. In all our work, we aspire to contribute to the mission of the GWSSA program at KSU by:

·Promoting social awareness on gender and women’s stereotypes that are present in society by hosting informative educational events

·Emphasizing that gender requires careful attention to its construction in relation to other social and cultural identities

·Providing leadership and support for students interested in learning about and getting involved with gender related issues

·Emphasizing the need for a global perspective on gender-related topics and issues

·Promoting outreach and partnerships between students and faculty

·Fostering sensibilities of social justice and gender equality through activism

·Sharing our vision of a just society by promoting open dialogue and community across all forms of difference without yielding its complexity

·Engaging in collaboration as a crucial strategy toward achieving shared goals by hosting public events

·Maintaining a commitment to promoting the personal, intellectual, and social growth of all students, faculty, and staff at Kennesaw State University

·Helping ensure that all Kennesaw State University community members see the university as a safe place and inclusive environment

Article III. Membership
The GWSSA is open to all enrolled students at Kennesaw State University
A.Membership is acquired by signing up.
B.Members must make an effort to participate in GWSSA events

Article IV. Requirements for Membership
Members must have a sincere interest in gender related issues and want to be involved in social change.

Article V. Officers
The GWSSA will consist of a president, a vice-president, a secretary, and a community alliance and public relations chair.
A.President
a.Presides over meetings
b.Facilitates discussion among the officers to determine meeting agendas
c.Serves as the primary liaison between students and faculty on issues of the organization

B.Vice-President
a.Organizes and oversees all financial matters related to the organization
b.Assists the president and secretary in all tasks pertaining to the organization


C.Secretary
a.Oversees the membership process
i.Records member attendance at meetings
ii.Maintains an updated directory of members
iii.Manages paperwork on all members
b.records minutes of meetings
c.Maintains documents and paperwork concerning the group

D.Public Relations and Community Alliance Chair
a.Works with faculty on special events
b.Organizes public outreach activities
c.Advertises public events
d.Promotes student involvement on campus


Article VI. Officer Requirements
All officers need to be a member of the GWSSA for at least one year, hold a minimum GPA of 2.0, and must be interested in social activism.

Article VII. Officer Election
A.Officers shall be elected by members of the GWSSA who have attended any two meetings prior to the election. Only members present for the election will be able to vote. The GWSSA secretary will be responsible for handling the ballots and managing the election process.
B.Any member may request impeachment. Impeachment requires a two-thirds majority vote by members who have attended any two meetings prior to the one at which the election is to take place. Issues involving impeachment must be presented before the organization. This may be done at a GWSSA monthly meeting, or a special meeting may be called to discuss the specific reasons for impeachment. Before an individual’s impeachment is voted on, he or she will have the opportunity to make a statement to the group. The GWSSA secretary will be responsible for handling the ballots and managing the process.
C.A candidate must receive the majority vote to become an officer.
D.Elections shall be held at the end of the Spring Semester at the last meeting of the organization
E.Term of office shall be from July 1 through June 30

Article VIII. Officer Replacement
A.Should a vacancy occur in the office of president, the vice-president shall become president and an election shall be held to fill the office of vice-president. Should there be a vacancy in any other elected office, a special election shall be called within two weeks after notification to the membership.
B.If the secretary’s impeachment is being voted on, the vice-president will act as secretary for the impeachment process.

Article IX. Meetings
A meeting of the whole will be held regularly on the second Thursday of each month (unless scheduled otherwise). Meetings within each committee will be determined as needed by the respective committee.

Article X. Finances
A.The organization will not have membership fees
B.The organization will not provide monetary gain to the officers or advisor(s) of the organization
C.In the event that the organization dissolves, all money belonging to the group shall be given to a charity identified by the remaining members

Article XI. Advisor(s)
A.The advisor(s) will be a faculty or staff member of Kennesaw State University interested in the mission of the organization
B.The advisor(s) will not be a voting member
C.The advisor(s) will be responsible for meeting with the officers once a month during the academic year
D.If the advisor(s) leaves the organization, he or she will nominate a replacement, at which point the officers will vote to decide who the new advisor(s) will be.

Article XII. Non-Discrimination Policy
“The Gender and Women’s Studies Student Association does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, age, religion, creed, color, handicap disability, veteran status, national origin, ancestry, or sexual orientation”

Article XIII. Non-Hazing Policy
The Gender and Women’s Studies Student Association will not practice any physical or psychological forms of hazing, and our members are free to discontinue their membership without undue pressure or interference.

Article XIV. Amendments to bylaws
A.Any member may request a vote to alter the by-laws. Amendments to the by-laws must be submitted in writing to the secretary at least 48 hours prior to the meeting the amendments are to be introduced.
B.Passage of an amendment requires a two-thirds majority vote by members who have attended at least two meetings prior to the one at which the vote is to be held.
C.Amendments approved by the membership become effective after being approved by SABAC

Article XV. Agreement to SABAC
The Gender and Women’s Studies Student Association agrees to abide by the policies of Kennesaw State University as well as all federal, sate and local laws. These by-laws and any revisions or amendments must be approved by Student Activities Budget Advisory Committee (SABAC) prior to implementation.
