Obzidiian "Dii" Dalhar'Phlith

Dii was the cleric I made in EverQuest and the main character I roleplayed in EverQuest.  Along with Obzidian, she's probably my most fleshed out character.  She is very real in my head and has a distinct voice in contrast to her siblings.  I really enjoyed playing her differences and similarities to Obz.

Character Background

Of the Dalhar'Phlith Sisters

These are six Teir'dal sisters and a single Teir'dal brother.  The sisters are septuplets, something extremely unheard of for Teir'dal.   The stories of their birth are hazy and unknown to all but the sisters themselves.  Each of the girls has a name begining with "Obz" with the single, now deceased, boy being named Ozbidian.  The Dalhar'Phlith sisters are quite old, having been around since the birth of the Child of Hate, Lanys T`Vyl.  Each of the sisters is loyal to the Daughter of Hate (Goddess of Malice) first and to the Father, Innoruuk, second.  The strength of the conviction each sister feels in her faith is different.

Obzidiian's Story Now ( in The Age of Destiny)

Obzidiian is a priestess of Innoruuk and the Child of Hate (Lanys T'Vyl).  She is small, but very well built and muscled.  Her skin is a deep indigo and her eyes are silver-white.  Dii is a quiet cynic.  Her faith in her deities is quiet but unshaking.  This does not mean, however, that she believes that the gods may always be right or that they are omnipotent.  Instead, they are the reason for her existence and she serves them as one would serve a house.  They do not dictate her everyday life activities.  Dii is quiet and reserved, except around friends.  She is more than happy to debate religion with fellow believers and non-believers.  She is open-minded and slow to trust, having been betrayed in the past.  Once she has befriended someone, she is,  like Obzidian, loyal to a fault.   Dii's sisters often joke that she has only two moods, angry and kindly.  There is truth in this statement as she does not handle her emotions well, often hiding behind a cold, angry facade when she is uncomfortable.

Prior to the Cataclsym, Dii was in a great house called Velnarin d'Philith.  She and Samarah both applied to join at the same time.  Through this house, Dii met many individuals who became her very close friends.   Dii worked her way up through the ranks becoming second in command to the leader of the priests, Saver Leof'gifu.  Given that Saver was also the second in command of the house, this position proved to be a good deal of responsibility and caused Dii and Saver to work very closely together.  As the two worked together and debated religion, a relationship began to form.  After some time, Saver proposed to Dii and she accepted his proposal.  They never set a date.  Times began to change.  Saver was called more and more to do his work as a priest and as the second of the house.  When Velnarin d'Philith changed leadership after Moander (its previous head) disapeared, Dii left the house.  Her relationship with Saver persisted, yet the two grew distance as they were both  called to do their duty in a Norrath that was quickly changing.  Not long after leaving Velnarin D'Philith, Dii abandoned Neriak.  She could tell the winds of change were coming.  She was also frustrated with the politics and religious perspective of the many fundamentalists she met in Neriak.  She gathered a group of like minded individuals and  worked together to create a small village named Sanctuary in the Commonlands, a place of neutrality where all would be allowed.  The village was seated between Neriak and Freeport and was warded by magic created from a great ritual.

During this time period, when Sanctuary was being built, Dii finally received word of Saver.  Instead of pleasant news of a proposed wedding date or a visit, she was informed that Saver had married.  Not only had he married, but he had married another member of Velnarin D'Philith, a Teir'dal necromancer by the name of Kvanilya, whom Dii had once considered a friend.  Dii was enraged and hurt.  Still, she set aside her feelings for the good of Sanctuary and when the village was ready for the ritual of protection, she asked Saver for his aid.  Saver came and did the ritual for the city, but the two did not interact more than necessary.  She only saw Saver once more after this.  He showed at her doorstep on a stormy evening, covered in snow and ice and dragging behind him a small Teir'dal child, his son Cree.  He made a request of Dii, asking her to care for the boy, saying that there was no one else and no where else he could trust.  Once she agreed, he left.  They never saw each other again.   The ritual's magic protected the city for a great deal of time, but when the armies of Rallos began to march on Norrath, Obzidiian knew the powers could not stand against those of the gods themselves--it would be a war of attrition and the small village could not withstand such a siege.  She led the villagers to Freeport where there would be safety in numbers.  Once in Freeport, she relinquished all of her authority and withdrew from most public life.  She devoted herself to her family and to her carpentry, drawing upon her previous talents as a smith.  She also cared for Cree, whom she considers her son.

Now that the way to Neriak is re-opened, she has moved her old home, missing the ambiance of the city.  Dii takes comfort in living underground again, where she is much more comfortable.  She is creating her own small temple in Neriak, to attempt to strengthen the Father's influence upon the city  and once again is going out into Norrath, spreading Innoruuk's Will.

Dii's favorite holiday is the Festival of the Blood of the Moon, although she enjoys Frostfell quite a bit as well.  She is particularly amused at how Frostfell is a holiday created by Innoruuk and yet all the races try to appropriate it.

Quotes

  • For me, the goal of any of the religious rituals or temple service  is to break barriers and boundaries, sending me into a more primal, raw connection with Innoruuk...to erase the civilized conventions and attain that connection, space, where there is no skin, no outer layers, but simply raw primal hatred.
  • Power is holding someone's hatred in your hand and showing it to them, caressing it like a lover and bending it to the Divine Purpose of the Father.
  • Hatred is a very underestimated emotion -- Jim Morrison
  • A strong hatred is the best lamp to bear in our hands as we go over the places of Norrath,, cutting away the things the Haeth'un  tell us to revere. -- Rebecca West, modified
  • Any deviation from the norm of the Haeth'un and surface elf lifestyles is looked upon as a perversion, is feared, and is usually a target of hatred and prejudice.  This strengthens the hold of the Father upon Norrath and furthers Innoruuk's Will.  Use our difference to confound those who make themselves our enemies.  Revel in their Hatred, for the glory of Innoruuk!
  • From the deepest desires often come the deadliest hate. -- Socrates
